SymmPower USB max current question

  • For the SymmPower product with the USB C connector, can most USB ports handle the max current draw of 550mA? Also any thermo issues that I need to look out for if running it at max power? Does it need active cooling?

  • Older USB 2.0 connectors may only support up to 500mA max output current. But newer USB A connectors and USB C based connectors can handle 1.5A or more. Keep in mind that these currents are dictated by the USB standard. But there are all kinds of "USB" connectors out there that do not get verified or follow the standard so it is possible you could run into a new cheap USB power source that is under 550mA.

No need for active cooling, this design stays cool as a cucumber in room temperature environments. If you are using it in a hot environment you just need to ensure the ICs on the design stay at or below 85 degrees C.

    Thanks for the questions!
